“The current approach to sustainability is not working”
This is the clear message of a recent survey of 844 sustainability experts across 72 countries. Perhaps unsurprisingly, this concern is especially loud in North America, where sustainability, DEI and ESG are facing a strong backlash.
The new report, jointly developed by GlobeScan, ERM and Volans , nonetheless has an optimistic take, viewing the present impasse as an opportunity to chart a new course. The analysts developed a useful matrix that identifies the current “toolbox” of actions, levers and approaches to sustainability (below), and maps these tools for their “impact” and “feasibility” according to the aggregate judgement of the experts.
Lumet, our project on illuminating metal supply-chains, specifically touches several levers of change identified by sustainability experts:
- Supply-chain engagement and performance
- Collaboration within and across sectors
- Industry sustainability standards
- Sustainability certifications
- Voluntary sustainability reporting/disclosure
