The stakeholder event How do we create a more resilient critical mineral supply chain? was held on 29 January 2026 at University College London, with hybrid participation. Convened under the MINERS Project and led by the Institute for Sustainable Resources (UCL) in partnership with the British Geological Survey and the Lumet Project, lead by University of Waterloo, the event brought together participants from industry, academia, and government, including representatives from both the UK and Canadian governments, and industry experts on mining and circularity. The purpose of the meeting was to communicate the aims of the MINERS Project, present its modelling framework for assessing critical mineral supply chain resilience, discuss initial results, and gather input to inform the development of future resilience scenarios.
The programme combined expert presentations with roundtable discussions. Contributions addressed opportunities for UK–Canada cooperation on sustainable critical minerals, an overview of the MINERS Project, Lumet’s progress on mapping of voluntary sustainbility standards (Lumet WP1), the role of the G7 in global critical minerals governance, and recent policy developments in the UK and for Canadad. Two roundtable sessions focused on resilience modelling and future scenario development, with participants discussing key barriers and opportunities from research, policy, and industry perspectives, including data gaps, geopolitical risk, governance mechanisms, and trade-offs between resilience, sustainability, and pricing. The event concluded with a synthesis of key themes and priorities, which will inform the next phase of the MINERS Project and the refinement of future scenario pathways.
